Acupressure works as a self cure self help technique for a few problems. If used properly, it is very effective with its pressure points. With some very good books being available in the market, it is further helpful not only for the therapists but also for anyone to use these techniques.

A paperback of 272 pages by michael reed gach titled `acupressure`s potent points: a guide to self-care for common ailments` is a practical guide covering more than forty ailments and symptoms, from allergies to wrist pain, providing pressure-point maps and exercises to relieve pain and restore function. In this book the author states that acupressure complements conventional medical care, and enables you to take a vital role in becoming well and staying well. The author is also a founder and director of the acupressure institute of america. He reveals simple techniques that enable you to relieve headaches, arthritis, colds and flu, insomnia, backaches, hiccups, leg pain, hot flashes, depression, and more--using the power and sensitivity of your own hands.

Michael reed mach has also authored another book titled `acupressure: how to cure common ailments the natural way` of 256 pages. This book also includes simple techniques to relieve problems such as headaches, arthritis, colds, fatigue, insomnia, backache and depression; pressure point maps and exercises to relieve pain and restore function. Through these maps this book might probe to be a 5-minute acupressure routine to maintain health and relieve stress. This book has separate chapters for each different ailment.

`the acupressure warm - up` a 128 pages book by marc coseo contains application of some simple techniques. Marc coseo, a tennis player suffered from frustration when he had to stop playing due to injury. He discovered a book on acupressure. However, he did not find anyone to treat him as often as he needed. He tried lying on a tennis balls placed on the spots the acupressure book recommended. The results surprised him and then he studied acupuncture and developed his own techniques. He recommends it as the perfect pre-warm-up warm-up, relaxing and stimulating the muscles to reduce pain from the injuries. The book also includes some impressive case histories.

`acupressure & reflextherapy in the treatment of medical conditions` all of 210 pages and written by john r cross who is a physiotherapist/acupuncturist/naturopath is a sequel to his `acupressure: clinical applications in musculo-skeletal conditions`. The book is a clinical acupressure book for healthcare professionals dealing with the treatment of medical conditions. It offers practical advice on diagnosis and assessment of individual medical conditions as well as in-depth treatment procedures. Conditions treated include acute, chronic and emotional aspects of respiratory, gynaecological and obstetrical, neurological, digestive, ent and general pain disorders.

Amy snow and nancy zidonis authored a book about acupressure for dogs titled `the well-connected dog: a guide to canine acupressure` of 165 pages. This book is a step-by-step acupressure manual for dogs and an easy to follow guide with lots of illustrations, photographs and charts.

Nancy zidonis and amy snow have been practicing healing arts for over 25 years, concentrating their work on animal acupressure. They teach acupressure for animals throughout the world and have also authored two other books, "acu-cat, a guide to feline acupressure, equine acupressure, a working manual as well as horse, dog and cat meridian charts. A lot of reader reviews say that they have tried the techniques in this book and have found it effective. More so, they also mention that while using these techniques they themselves and also their dogs enjoyed the treatment while performing.

A book by aaron stein is a practical manual to acupressure with precise diagrams available is titled `acupressure guide: alleviate headaches, neck and joint pain, anxiety attacks and other ailments`. There are not many explanations in this book but the diagrams are very clear. As one reader review says this book does not give you a `cure - all` solution but gives a know - how into acupressure techniques addressing the common human medical problems.

One of the reader reviews finds this as the easiest book with precise information on location of acupoints, duration of massage, and direction of force.
