Constipation
Constipation is an acute or chronic condition in which bowel movements occur less often than usual or consist of hard, dry stools that are painful or difficult to pass. Bowel habits vary, but an adult who has not had a bowel movement in three days or a child who has not had a bowel movement in four days is considered constipated. Acupressure helps to relax the abdomen, ease discomfort, and stimulate regular bowel movements. For two minutes, he applies gentle fingertip pressure to a point about two and one-half inches below the navel. Accupressure can also be applied to the outer edges of one elbow crease and maintained for 30 seconds before pressing the crease of the other elbow. This should be done three times a day to relieve constipation.
Abdominal distension
Bloated stomach is often caused by a sudden increase in fiber from vegetables, fruits and beans. If this is the cause of your bloating, you might ease up on these foods and reintroduce them more gradually into your diet. Alternatively, persevere and the bloated feeling should pass within a matter of days. The most common causes of chronic stomach bloating are irregular digestive processes which produce gases at a much higher rate than normal. A few other cuases for abdominal distension can be pre-menstrual tension (pmt). This symptoms tend to disappear or greatly improve once the bleeding actually starts. A reason could be contraceptive pill or too much alcohol.
Even a small amount of excess sodium or salt in food may cause bloating. While there can be no direct cure for this problem three pressure points on the body may be stimulated daily for two minutes each that will promote the general health as well as aid digestion, elimination and relaxation. These points are: large intestines 4 (hegu); pericardium 6 (neiguan); and stomach 36 (zusanli). The points should be pressed with strong continuous pressure for approximately two minutes each and may be said to comprise a self-healing treatment.
