Insomnia may cause problems during the day, such as tiredness, a lack of energy, difficulty concentrating, and irritability. Almost everyone experiences some level of insomnia. It can be as simple as not being able to fall asleep because excitement of the day ahead or a change in sleeping patterns. Insomnia can be caused by many different things. Transient and intermittent insomnia usually occur in people who are temporarily experiencing: stress, environmental noise, extreme temperatures, change in the surrounding environment, sleep/wake schedule problems such as those due to jet lag, or medication side effects.

Insomnia is a common feature and is prevalent in young and old alike. A decreased level of melatonin in the brain is one reason why people are not able to sleep. Stress, depression or a deficiency in magnesium or iron could be other causes for insomnia. Sometimes there is a hormonal imbalance or individuals suffer from RLS (restless leg syndrome) which prevents from getting adequate sleep. Acupressure is particularly effective in treating insomnia. Many people report immediate improvements in their sleeping habits. With acupressure, the sensation of sleep comes easily, lasts without interruption, and is deeper and more refreshing.
