Determining the best possible exact main areas requiring treatment and the problem areas on the subtle plane (Etheric body), is sometimes the most important consideration before starting Reiki session. There are quite a few effective methods to accomplish the purpose. Frequent work with Reiki leads to development of more and more sensitivity. The hands in particular will become increasingly sensitive with time. Easy access to imprints on the energetic plane will naturally be acquired with time. The following exercise will help to sensitize hands more quickly.
Begin by keeping them apart at a distance of about 20 inches, with the palms facing each other.
Then take about five minutes to bring the hands together very slowly.
Feel into your palms and observe the changes taking place during this process.
This simple exercise done daily for a few weeks, will increase perceptive faculty will quickly. Still, there are many things one has to experience first before being able to interpret and evaluate perceptions properly. But there are certain similar sensations that are experienced by most people and thereby form a key for proper interpretation. The most common perceptions and their possible significance is described here:
Coldness: An old energy block that dampens the vitality of the organism as it is removed from the flow of ongoing processes causes this kind of sensation. These areas sometimes need a great deal of attention in order to release such energy blocks. A willingness in the patient to face old pain or deep forgotten memories may be necessary to release these probably colder areas. As a reiki cure, whole body treatment is recommended in addition to extra attention on the cold spot. A great potential for growth opens up when this kind of blockage is released. But It may require deep inner work before it can unfold.
Heat: Feeling heat in the hands is interpretation this as a sign that vitality is needed and welcome. The sensations can range between warmth and "boiling" heat (although not unpleasant). If the sensations of heat are perceptible on the whole body of the patient, it does not matter on which area of his body Reiki energy is allowed to flow, as life energy automatically flows to the needy areas without much resistance. In such cases reactions that are difficult to deal with rarely arise.
Tingling: This sensation generally indicates some inflammation. Its upto the healer to decide whether it is chronic, sub acute or acute, by judging the intensity.
Very intense tingling, sometimes extending up to the shoulders, often signals some acute, severe inflammation. In case of physician or holistic practitioner of natural therapeutics encountering such case, they should have the erythrocyte sediment rate (ESR) determined in order to gain more clarity. If not qualified to conduct such tests, the healer should refer the client to another medical practitioner. Reiki is a powerful support tool in such cases, and is effective on its own in less severe cases.
Strong magnetic attraction: This peculiar sensation strongly indicates that Reiki energy is urgently needed in the particular area and is readily accepted. When the feeling of a strong magnetic pull ceases, wait for a while to find out whether another sensation follows. If no different sensation is detected, the healer can proceed with the next position.
Energy "Pushing" the healer away: This kind of sensation depicts an old, deeply rooted blockage, which impedes the much-needed vitality and life energy. Such blocks are usually connected with the vital processes of the body in some form. After clarifying whether your client is ready for a process of gaining greater awareness and consciousness, the healer can use supporting measures such as the blockage-releasing technique of the mental method of Second Degree Reiki. This should be followed by affirmations or other appropriate means to prepare the individual for opening up. The healer should be aware of the patient`s anxieties and allow adequate time for the process to unfold.
Flowing: The feeling of energy flow in hands suggests that life-force energy is already flowing and welcoming the additional vital impulses, resulting in a higher vibrational frequency of the entire system. The success of Reiki session is felt as a merging into love and security. Gentle growth is inevitable.
Sharp pain: This sensation may be a symptom of an energy build-up in the process of dissolving. The released energy rises into consciousness and is integrated by the surrounding energy system. Dealing with parts that were previously repressed is often stressful or painful. Therefore, one should not complete the Reiki session in haste, but rather treat the whole body. Also, the support required afterwards to provide assistance to facilitate integration of the released energy is mandatory.
Dull pain: This sensation indicates towards an old build up, which is still in the preconscious state but is ready for release. Upon occurrence of such sensation, the healer will have to infuse the area with Reiki energy more often until the hardened structure is completely dissolved. Though whole body treatment is not absolutely necessary, it could definitely speed up release of the blockage. Careful observation will predict the release build-up. Then one can shift the focus to Reiki whole body treatment.
Pain twinges: This indicates towards an energy build-up ready for release, but not yet integrated by the surrounding energy system. Regular Reiki work is required, along with definite inclusion of the rest of the body.
