Patchouli
Patchouli is a sensual, erotic scent. It especially influences the sexual center increasing sensual perception and zest for life. An increased appreciation of the sensual aspects of life helps release of energy held back in an otherwise blocked pelvic region. Patchouli is more mature and specific than Clary sage, because it opens us up to the sensual pleasures on all levels of existence, making us receptive to music, art, sensuality and the joy of experiencing nature. In Reiki work patchouli is used to restore the flow of energy in the pelvic region.
Lavender
This is the most popular and most preferred scent of all. It has proved to be particularly successful with oversensitive people who are easily disturbed, and hurt by small jokes or comments of fellows. Lavender oil also helps people who are so deeply hurt and sensitive that they are not even able to voice their anguish. Such symptoms are characterized by weakened aura. In such case, every contact with the environment is then felt more or less as an assault. Often such a weakened person will adopt protective habits such as extreme introvertness. For Reiki work with lavender oil should be applied to the most sensitive chakra(s). Lavender can also be very useful during prolonged Reiki work when many new things are being perceived intensely due to the release of blockages.
Lavender promotes the development of positive energy by strengthening the energy of the root and solar plexus centers.
Clary sage
This stimulating essential oil mainly affects the Third Eye, and hence opens the mind to new vistas of experience by inspiring a new openness and a heightened sensitivity to the sensual pleasures of life. It creates a childlike enthusiasm towards the world. In Reiki work Clary sage gently opens blocked major and minor chakras. It inspires one to drop self-imposed limitations and develop courage to face new challenges. The even, calm quality and the cheerful overtones instill in us a more lively uninhibited sense of being. Naturally, The scent enables us to release locked-up energy.
Lemon verbena
This is a freshening and empowering scent. It helps to get detached from outmoded patterns of behavior like dogmatic thinking. More new life enhancing attitudes are developed. Lemon verbena is indicated if a person has become conscious of his blocks, and wants to do away with them. It hints at importance of making sure that the energy reserves of the client are sufficient for adjusting himself to a new way of life. It also helps with release of blockages if the function of his organs and energy system is restored in treatment. Lemon verbena mainly affects the root chakra, in combination with an opening of the Third Eye. It is therefore advisable to use lemon verbena locally after cleansing and partial opening to strengthen any particular chakra. This strengthening also provides protection.
It helps reduction of self-created obstacles which holds one back from a more sensual encounter with life. The obstacles range from the fear of being touched and closeness of all kinds, allergies, skin impurities, and anything else a person may have set up in order n to experience his life on a sensual level. Patchouli may be used with all major and minor chakras closed to sensual perception to help restore this function. Ylang-Ylang is another oil that can be preferred by people not opting for patchouli.
Sandalwood
 The calm energy pattern of sandalwood creates the sensation of human warmth, acceptance, openness and understanding. Hence, it is said to evoke the function of the loving, warm heartedness. Reiki treatment may use this scent to help create a pleasant atmosphere throughout the session. Sandalwood evokes trust. It also facilitates communication. This quality is an advantage for the healer to carry on his task. Also, use of sandalwood for intense specific Reiki work can be carried out (Such as treating the chakras or loosening muscle armor). Perceptions are least likely to go wrong under the influence of sandalwood.
