 Almost a decade ago, essential oils were used almost exclusively for the production of cosmetic perfumes or for beauty care products. Nowadays, Essential oils are now also used for stimulating inner growth processes and for therapeutic purposes. Aromatherapy employs essential oils extracted from plants. The scents of essential oils work on an organic level due to the presence of certain typical essences.
They also possess high-potency subtle vibrational patterns that can have a curative influence on the inner energy systems and the aura. In fact different aromas can be used for chakra therapy. They create a state of grounding or connectedness from within. In fact essences are easy to grasp and one need not be an expert in aromatherapy to incorporate it in Reiki. The system employs the following essential oils:
Clary sage:This oil awakens the joy of life and the natural curiosity of the "inner child".
Patchouli: It relates to the pleasure of sensuous experience and joy of the perception of the world around.
Lavender: Suitable for oversensitive people, this oil strengthens the protective function of the aura. In fact, it creates security by establishing a sense of distance.
Lemon verbena: As a powerful tonic, it eliminates organic and metal instability; provides the energy to actually use the energy released in the Reiki treatment.
Sandalwood: The loving, warm-hearted "mother" of the essence, sandalwood evokes an atmosphere of trust and facilitates communication.
Practical Applications for the Oils
In case of local application mix the oil in a ratio of 1:20 with sweet almond oil. Pay utmost attention to the quality factor as synthetic oils can cause illness under certain circumstances. If shaken ten times afterwards, it raises to its potency. Its effect will then be even stronger, deeper and at the same time gentler. In order to use essential oils, put a few drops of oil on the middle and index fingers. Rub it on the respective area of the body in an anticlockwise direction with gentle, circling movements spiraling inwards towards the end.
 This local application of oil mixture may be used for the treatment of chakras, emotional armor, and tension. They are also effective when applied to the hand and foot reflex zones. Another use to enhance the surroundings during a Reiki session is through an aroma lamp filling the consulting room with the scent of the desired essence. Putting a few drops of the pure essential oil into the bowl, which is filled with water, will serve the purpose. For sandalwood and patchouli, incense sticks can be used. Only condition being that they have to be of good quality and consist of pure, herbal materials.
For the aromatic benefit for the whole day in the vibration of a particular essential oil, simply put a few drops on some cotton wool or a paper handkerchief. Wrap a little more cotton wool or tissue around it. Put the scent package into a small bag that one can wear round the neck on a silk or leather string. Using a chain of any kind of metal should be avoided. This indirect method keeps the fragrance and vibration of the essential oil longer in the aura than a perfume applied directly to the skin.
