Traditional Japanese Reiki preserves the original practices of reiki. It simply does not hold the belief that an Attunement can pass on a lineage. A practitioner becomes a reiki channel through the very first connecting attunement, rather than using any different types of symbols, mantra or mudra. The system`s efficiency lies in the very fundamental origin. Traditional Japanese Reiki system has no hierarchy, no `masters` and no concept of a `grand master` or `lineage bearer`. They consider it to be a `school` of Usui`s healing system (and not a `variant` of Takata`s `school`).
Most of the concepts and practices of the system originates directly from surviving descendants of Mikao Usui, who carried their work in Japan itself. One of Chujiro Hayashi`s students, Tatsumi, also carried forward the tradition. This system has no connection whatsoever with Mrs. Takata or any of the Western lineage.
The original purpose of the Usui healing system was to heal the whole person namely body, mind and spirit. Based on the same principle, Traditional Japanese system is driven solely by the intent of the practitioner who has at his/her disposal a number of `tools` that affect the way the energy is directed. It treats the SELF and then may be used to treat others through the self. The system does not relate to Indo-Tibetan energy work or Tibetan vajrayana Buddhism, which has influenced the other deviations.
The first person to be initiated in the lineage is considered to be Mikao Usui. He then passed on his knowledge to Toshihiro Eguchi, Goro Miyazuki, Yuji Ohnuki . However, the traditional Japanese Reiki is being passed on from Mikao Usui, Chujiro Hayashi to Tatsumi (Japan - 1995/96).
Traditional Japanese system levels:
The system is outlined in five levels of achievement and three degrees:
In First Degree Reiki student is initiated in the system by means of four `connecting transformations` or `attunements`. These attunements provide an indepth and complete connection as a fundamental part of the process.
Second Degree introduces the reiki student to 3 attunements and 3 symbols. Transformations/attunements are given to access to the various tools/symbols. Each symbol is a filter that acts on the Reiki energy. Invoking and working with those symbols performs a particular body/mind connection that activates it.
Level II attunements are known as Control Transformations.
Third Degree consist of one more attunement and introduction to one more symbol. This level teaches self-empowerment and requires a good practical understanding of the practitioner division material. The content of this level is still untouched by western Reiki systems. However, It does contain some of the material given out at the "master" level of the Reiki Alliance and in "level 3A" of the Reiki Training Center in Michigan.
Teacher level: This follows on from level III. It is a form of apprenticeship. This level teaches the student the theory and practice of the transformations. The feature that distinguishes it from Western schools is that this level does not permit teaching another teacher. The next level allows that. This system is rather strict and devoted to the school`s code of ethics.
Senior teacher level: Only senior teachers can train another teacher. This level goes deeply into Qigong, traditional Chinese medicine, Feng Shui and other Taoist energy work. Therefore, this level requires an intricate and lengthy study of the inner workings of the system and the writing of a thesis.
