1. Anxiety: Anxiety is the normal reaction to the anticipated thinking related to the future about self, & loved ones. However, when a limited amount of anxiety takes its toll on an individual and turns into an excessive anxiety, it interferes with the normal efficiency of the individual. Chronic anxiety disturbs the vital functions since; it is a major cause of Neurosis and is commonly seen as a result of excessive psychosomatic stress. Anxiety is also a major contributory factor to many other metabolic and psychosomatic disorders like Hypertension, IHD, Asthma, and Diabetes.
Causes:
Heredity, emotional disturbance, unsuccessful love affaires, disappointment or failures in one`s carrier are some of the factors causing Anxiety.
Symptoms:
Feeling anxious, being highly tensed, getting panicky and having tensions & headaches every time.
Tightness in the chest.
Difficulty in swallowing or breathing.
Pain in the chest, limbs and joints, tremors in hands and fingers, excessive perspiration, flushing of the face & difficulty in thinking rationally.
Frequent urination, diarrhea.
Lack of concentration
Elevated systolic pressure.
Rapid and thoracic breathing.
Treatment:
Conscious abdominal breathing relieves tension and brings overall relaxation.
Asanas: Ardha-shalabhasana, Niralambasana, Trikonasana, Yoga mudra in Vajrasana / Padmasana, Vakrasana, Makarasana, Gomukhasana, Brahmamudra, Shashankasana, Vrikshasana, Shavasana, Uddiyana Bandha, Anuloma Viloma and Ujjai, Shitali and Bhramari Pranayama.

2. Obesity: Obesity is one of the most common metabolic disorders found in all ages (children, young, adults) and in both sexes. Overweight is due to excessive accumulation of fat. Due to this extra surface area there is taxation on circulatory, respiratory and excretory system, which may lead to serious health problems like coronary heart diseases, diabetes mellitus, hypertension etc. Obesity also reduces physical work capacity in patients. It is also a social stigma as there is disproportionate appearance.
Causes:
The main cause is overeating / eating without having appetite, calorie intake is more than calorie expenditure.
Sedentary lifestyle & lack of exercises.
Symptoms:
Weight is excessively high.
Inertia, lethargy, no willingness for work, flabby abdomen, accumulated fat around abdomen, neck, hips and thighs.
Anxiety & depression.
Other psychosomatic diseases may be associated viz. hypertension, diabetes.
Treatment:
Shudhhikriyas: Vaman Dhauti/Danda Dhauti, Neti, Laghoo/Purna Shankhaprakshalana (Once a week / month), Kapalbhati (only for obesity).
Asanas: Ardha-halasana, Sarvangasana, Vipritakarani, Vakrasana, Bhujangasana, Makarasana Shalabhasana, Dhanurasana, Ardha-matsyendrasana, Yoga Mudra (in Vajrasana), Paschimotanasana, Ushtrasana, Chakrasana (Side bending), Padahastasana, Naukasana (Prone & Supine) Shavasana.
Pranayama: Anuloma Viloma, Ujjayi, Suryabhedan (10 times or more rounds).
Om Recitation: 10 times.
Diet: Mitahara: 1/2 stomach should be filled with food, 1/4 with water and 1/4 part should remain empty. Also avoid excessive intake of sugar, sweets, oily and fried food items, non-vegetarian food, milk and milk products and food prepared with refined floor/maida. Take simple diet with raw salads, sprouted cereals, fruits and green vegetables.
